i dislike when pple mispronounce my name. they try too hard instead of just learning. ok, those that want to learn, successfully waste my time and dont improve on their pronunciation. i am partly at fault sha. u know those nigerian names that are officially 10+ letters long that u shorten to 5letters for casual purposes. i have one of them. if my akata friends see my ID, they start to ask me where i got the short one from, the meaning of the long one etc. well, i am proud my name is unique but its a burden sometimes to spell every letter of my name using other words. like shawty would be spelt as: s as in sheep, h as in harvard blah blah blah. sometimes, at a loss of words sef.
now, my main beef is with these nigerian-americans that have nigerian names. i know u cant pronounce v.well but pls dont give it another meaning. these my fellow nigerians-cum-americans even shy away when i pronounce their names correctly to their face. imagine, one seun boy calling himself 'sean', or sade calling herself 'shade'. well, that 'shade' is also common in nigeria too. i just had to blog abt it cos ehn, it hurts me when u lose the beauty of ur name. better still, get an english name and dont mess with nigerian beautifully accented names.

kk....i'm igbo and my name is also very long and i never shorten it and wen some of my white peeps go like i shld shorten it, i always go like wen u shorten urs ill shorten mine.lol
the nigerians in my school are so nigerians eh so idnt really have tht kinda problem wt them.u shld call them out on it!

my school is predominantly white too.infact 99% whites but still the nigerians are still so naija!...u can imagine a situation where we went to catch fast and furious and during the stunts they wer yelling...'fake!fake!'.they r tooooo niaja.but they are so much fun and the whites love us this way cs they say its original and the blacks hate us cs we've got heritage!

I totally feel u. My full name is kinda long too. Back home in naija, i took a course at NIIT..on my certificate, they put MOTOROLA as my name..i cudnt use that certificate, had to request for another one which im yet to receive..they gave me a letter in the meantime. Like wtf?? I know my name sounds like that but did they really think naija parents can name their child MOTOROLA?? Mschew!

I totally feel u, me I believe my name is very easy to pronounce as long as u know ur abc's and mostly vowels but still people will be murdering it. I tried a nickname which is very common, people still gave me stupid names.
My Dad isn't one to mess with though, he will make you stand there and pronounce it till you get it right..lol
